Use Your Home Theater to Create the Ultimate Romantic Experience this Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and the pressure to do something special for your significant other can be nerve-wracking. The usual dinner and movie routine can become boring.

But what if you could spice it up and make the occasion more intimate? Imagine: you snuggle up with your loved one in a cozy home theater, armed with glasses of wine and tubs of popcorn, binge-watching all your favorite rom-coms on Netflix®!

Sounds like the perfect date night? Let us show you how to create the ultimate romantic home theater experience that will make your Valentine’s Day one to remember.

From high-quality sound and displays to plush seating and mood lighting, we’ll give you all the tips you need to make your home the perfect spot for a romantic night in.

5 Things you need for the perfect Valentine’s Day home theater experience

We know designing a home theater might seem overwhelming—there are so many custom options and features! But really, you only need the basics to give your partner the night they deserve. Here are 5 things that any good home theater set-up should have:

1. The Right Screen

The most important part of a home theater experience is the screen. So, upgrade your viewing experience by investing in a high-definition smart TV or a home cinema projector. Not only will the picture be clearer and more vibrant, but you’ll also be able to stream your favorite movies and shows in 4K resolution.

SCS Home Entertainment offers a variety of high-quality resolution screens including 4K Ultra HD, OLED, and Ultra LED TVs from trusted brands like Sony. Using our top-of-the-line DVD and Blu-Ray players will help you expand your viewing choices without cluttering your theater layout.

If you want a more cinematic, movie-theatre-like experience, projectors, and projector screens are the way to go. SCS carries a wide selection of projectors and screens to meet your home theatre needs. With various screen sizes available, you can get your screen mounted on the ceiling or find a portable one that can be placed on a table—making their placement versatile. Home cinema projectors are also more cost-effective than most TVs, and are easy to set up.

2. Immersive Sound

The audio is the backbone of an immersive movie-watching experience, and nothing can enhance it better than a surround sound system. And when we say surround sound, we’re talking about an army of in-ceiling speakers, floor speakers, rear speakers, and subwoofers. They’ll make your audio experience so powerful and realistic, you’ll feel like you’re a part of the show.

Now, a full surround sound system might get a tad bit expensive for some people. So, a more affordable alternative is soundbars. These sleek, easy-to-setup blocks of speakers might not be as great as a band of speakers, but they’re still pretty amazing.

And if you’re worried about getting lost in all these speakers and screens, don’t worry. SCS Home Entertainment promises you can control both audio and video from our two-in-one, easy-to-use system!

However, regardless of what kind of audio equipment you pick, ensure that some sound insulation is done. Not only does this improve sound quality, but it also reduces echo and keeps all the sound inside your house and your house only. That means zero disturbance to your neighbors!

3. Cozy Seating

The key to a relaxed and comfortable movie night is the seating. And there are three things to consider when choosing the right seating: the type of sofa or furniture, level of comfort and the upholstery.

For a cuddly romantic night-in, loveseats and recliners are unmatched. They also take up less space—perfect if you’re working with a smaller room!

The next thing is comfort. You want something that will make you and your loved one feel like royalty. That’s why you should consider getting recliners with high-density foam cushions and supportive backrests. You can also invest in adjustable headrests and a few throw pillows for extra comfort.

Regarding upholstery, leather and microfiber are popular options for home theater seating. Leather is durable and easy to clean, while microfiber is soft and stain resistant. And both look quite plush and luxurious!

SCS Home Entertainment provides many seating options. Not only do you get all the above furniture, you can also custom-assemble things like fancy cabinets and credenzas!

4. Ambient Lighting

Setting the perfect mood lighting is crucial for creating the perfect romantic ambience. And that’s why dimmer switches and smart bulbs are some of the best things you can invest in. Using these, you can easily control the amount of light in your home theater (from your phones!) by increasing or reducing the brightness of the bulbs.

To make things extra special, put up some candles and fairy lights for an added touch of romance. The flicker of the candles and the soft glow of the fairy lights will create a truly enchanting atmosphere full of love and magic.

Some other options that you may look into include colored bulbs and accent lighting. But no matter which lighting you choose, don’t forget to put up blackout curtains to reduce all that unwanted glare and create a darker environment for the ideal cinematic experience.

5. Snacks

Last but not least, a movie night is incomplete without snacks! Treat your loved one to some homemade popcorn or their favorite candies.

You can even make them a special drink or cocktail to add something extra to the evening. Perhaps some wine or, dare we say, champagne?

But above all, don’t forget about the heart-shaped cookies and brownies. You can either bake them yourself or get them from the store; it’s totally up to you!

You also won’t have to waste time and money buying replacement batteries for all your different remote controls.

It’s the perfect way to give yourself peace of mind, knowing that your home can be secured at the touch of a button.

This feature is indispensable during the holidays when you might be away from home. Whether at work, on vacation, or just running errands, you can always check in and put your mind at ease knowing that your home is safe and secure—just the way you left it.

Climate Control

With SCS Climate Control installed in your home, you can easily adjust temperature settings to be exactly what you need without any hassle.

Not only will you be able to regulate room temperatures to keep your family and friends comfortable, but you’ll also save money on your energy bills. By controlling the temperature in each room with a single device, you won’t waste money heating or cooling areas that no one is using.

Top Halloween Movies

Top Halloween Movies to Watch in Surround Sound

Pumpkin spice latte season is in full swing, and while that may mean the leaves are changing color and crisp autumn air is rolling in for some, it means one thing for others–Halloween is here! If you’re like many homeowners out there, you’re ready to have a spooky movie marathon tonight.

Have you thought about what movies you’ll be watching? We’ve put up a list of our top must-watch horror flicks. These movies, from classics to modern-day favorites, will surely get your heart racing.

The Cabin in the Woods

April 2012 will be one of the most unforgettable months in recent memory. This month marked the release of Drew Goddard’s “The Cabin in the Woods.”

The story is about a group of young friends who travel to a remote cabin for a weekend getaway, only to find themselves being picked off one-by-one by a mysterious force. This movie is special because it expertly blends suspense, horror, comedy, and even sci-fi into one package.

You’ll be on the edge of your seat the entire time, trying to figure out what is going on and who will be the next victim. The cabin is a character in the movie, and you will feel right there with the characters as they explore its dark corners.

The Lighthouse

A24’s “The Lighthouse” is one of the most atmospheric movies of 2019. It is a slow-burn horror movie that takes place on a remote island in the 1890s, where two lighthouse keepers (played by Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe) are slowly driven mad by the isolation and boredom of their jobs.

The movie is shot in black-and-white and has a 1.19:1 aspect ratio, which gives it an old-fashioned look and feel. But don’t let the movie’s old-timey appearance fool you–the sound design is top-notch, and you’ll feel like you’re right there in the lighthouse with the characters as they descend into madness.

The movie is full of unsettling images and sounds, which come together to create a feeling of unease that will stay with you long after the credits have rolled.

A Quiet Place

“A Quiet Place” is a 2018 movie directed by John Krasinski. The movie takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where deadly creatures hunt by sound.

The story follows a family of four who has to navigate their way through the dangerous world without making a sound. The movie is full of suspense, and you may find yourself holding your breath without realizing it.

The quiet, frantic chase juxtaposed with the eerie silence makes this film a must-see while the volume is turned all the way up. The sound design is so realistic you’ll feel like you’re right in the middle of the movie–and it will make your skin crawl.

The Babadook

The Babadook is a 2014 Australian horror movie about a mother and son who are terrorized by a monster from a children’s book.

The Babadook is a nightmarish creature that will terrorize your dreams, and the film is jam-packed with thrilling moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The sound design is excellent, with a DTS-HD MA 5.1 track that creates an immersive and uneasy experience.

Alien

“Alien” is a 1979 sci-fi horror movie directed by Ridley Scott. The movie follows the crew of the Nostromo, who are awakened from their cryogenic sleep to investigate a distress signal from a nearby planet.

They find a deadly alien creature that starts picking them off one by one. The movie is a suspenseful and claustrophobic ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat. While Alien wasn’t known for its special effects, it had some of the best sound designs of its time.

The Shining

“The Shining” is a 1980 horror movie directed by Stanley Kubrick. The story follows Jack Torrance (played by Jack Nicholson), who is hired as the winter caretaker of the Overlook Hotel. He brings his wife and young son with him, but the hotel’s ghosts soon terrorize them.

The movie is full of suspense and terror and will keep you glued to the screen from beginning to end. The movie is also notable for its use of sound, which creates a feeling of unease and dread.

The Shining is a classic horror movie that sends chills down your spine.

Ready For Horror Movie Night?

One thing that makes movie marathons great is their incredible sound design. Without the right sound, these movies would lose much of their impact.

Home audio setups from SCS Home Entertainment are the perfect way to get the most out of your movie marathons for the upcoming holidays. We offer a wide range of products and services to suit all your needs, so you can always find the perfect solution for your home. Contact SCS today.

Commercial Lighting Control

See The Light: The Benefits of Commercial Lighting Control

Businesses rely on lights to keep their operations running smoothly. From the moment you open your doors in the morning until they close at night, lights are essential to your day-to-day life. That’s why it’s crucial to have a comprehensive lighting control system that can help you save money and energy.

At SCS Home Entertainment, we believe every business should have access to quality lighting control. That’s why we offer affordable and easy-to-use solutions that can be tailored to any business. So, if you’re on the fence about investing in your lighting, read on! You might be surprised how a good lighting control system can benefit your bottom line.

Benefits of a Commercial Lighting Control System

There are several benefits of commercial lighting control. Some of them include:

Improved Productivity

While many businesses overlook it, lighting plays a crucial role in productivity. Proper lighting can help employees stay alert and focused. In contrast, bad lighting can cause headaches, which make concentration difficult.

With a commercial lighting control system, you can fine-tune the light in your office to create the perfect environment for peak productivity. For example, you can install task lighting at individual desks to help employees stay focused on their work. Or, you can install dimmers to reduce the overall brightness of the room when it’s time for a break or after-hours.

Automating when and how you turn on lights can create the perfect working environment for your team, promoting concentration and limiting distractions.

Customizability

One of the best things about commercial lighting control systems is that you can customize them to fit the exact needs of your business. At SCS Home Entertainment, we understand that each business is unique. Our team will work closely with you to design a system that meets your unique needs and budget.

Whether you need a simple system to control the lights in your conference room or a more complex system to manage the lighting throughout your entire office, we can help.

Lower Energy Consumption

Most businesses invest in commercial lighting control systems to decrease their energy costs. But how exactly does a lighting control system help you save energy?

For starters, a quality lighting control system will allow you to automate when lights are turned on and off. This means that lights won’t be left on accidentally when they’re not needed, which can often happen without a control system in place.

Some lighting control systems come with occupancy sensors. These sensors will automatically turn lights off when an area is unoccupied. This is an excellent way to reduce energy consumption and save money on your monthly bill.

In addition, many commercial lighting control systems come with daylight harvesting capabilities, which means that the system will take advantage of natural light to reduce the energy needed to light a space.

Of course, the amount of energy you’ll save will depend on the size and layout of your business premise. Whatever your space is like, properly using a lighting control system can help you achieve significant energy savings.

Peace Of Mind

In addition to energy savings, another big benefit of commercial lighting control is safety and security. With a quality lighting system in place, you’ll be able to create a safe environment for your employees, customers, and visitors. You can do this by placing lights in strategic locations that deter crime and improve visibility.

In addition, many commercial lighting control systems come with emergency backup capabilities. In a power outage, your system will automatically turn on emergency lights to help people evacuate the premises safely. This includes manual overrides and automatic triggering based on utility power loss.

If you’re interested in learning more about commercial lighting control, or finding out if it’s the right solution for your business, contact SCS Home Entertainment today.

Our team of enthusiastic specialists can help you find the best solutions for all your commercial and personal integrated technology requirements. We’d be delighted to assist you in selecting the best solution for your business.

Motorized Shades

4 Benefits of Motorized Shades

September is just around the corner, and as summer turns to fall, homeowners may have difficulty navigating the alternating heat and cold. One potential solution is motorized window treatments, which allow you to extend and retract window shades with the touch of a button.

You might consider going the DIY route to upgrade your home’s shades, blinds, and drapes. However, contacting an experienced installer for motorized window treatments can provide you with valuable input from industry professionals.

The benefits of motorized shades and drapes extend beyond regulating your home’s temperature. Here’s why you should consider upgrading your window shades, and why you should contact SCS Home Entertainment for help.

Improved Safety & Security

Manual shades require you to pull on cords to open and close them. These cords can be a choking hazard for young children and animals. Motorized shades remove the need for these cords, opting for a motor system out of reach from any curious hands. You can rest easy when kids and pets are near your motorized shades.

Motorized shades can also improve your home security. While you’re out of the house, you can close smart shades with your computer or smartphone and prevent passersby from seeing inside. When combined with smart lighting, you can further deter would-be intruders by remotely toggling your shades and lights.

Proper operation of your motorized shades and drapes can improve safety inside and outside the home. SCS can teach you how to operate your new motorized window shades properly after completing the installation.

Energy-Efficient

Motorized shades can play an instrumental part in reducing energy costs. As the weather gets colder, you might look for more ways to keep your home interior warm. Presetting your motorized shades to stay open during the autumn and winter can increase heat flow to your home and reduce your need for expensive heating options.

Energy efficiency is more important than ever with rising heating and lighting costs. Rely on SCS for motorized window treatments that are easy on your energy bill.

Protection From Light & UV Rays

Your skin isn’t the only area vulnerable to sun exposure. Excessive exposure to UV rays can dull the sheen of furniture, rugs, fine art, and wood. Assigning presets to motorized shades and drapes can regulate the amount of light your interior receives. Whether you are preserving a premium home theater setup, works of fine art, or your living room furniture, motorized window shades can help you maintain your home’s interior.

Balancing natural light exposure with reasonable energy costs can be a delicate matter. SCS Home Entertainment can advise and consult on operating your window shades post-installation.

Customization & Automation Options

Thanks to technological advancements, motorization is now possible for windows of all shapes and sizes. Homeowners now have access to various wireless, battery-operated motors, allowing for an upgrade without re-wiring. Motorized shades and drapes can also fit into unorthodox window spaces. Round or oblong windows are no longer an obstacle to upgrading your home.

If you’re thinking about new motorized window treatments, consider taking them a step further with automation. Integrating window shades into an existing smart home setup can further expand your customization options. Set a room scene and save the preset to your smartphone, computer, or central touchscreen.

If motorized window treatments are an upcoming upgrade to your home, fill out a contact form on our website.  SCS Home Entertainment will work with you to find smart window solutions that fit your budget.

Home Theater

Why You Should Hire a Company For Your Home Theater

A home theater can deliver a cinematic feature directly to your own home, complete with immersive surround sound, crystal-clear resolution, and movie-grade seating. If you’re interested in upgrading your home entertainment setup in time for the upcoming blockbuster or pro sports season, a brand-new home theater system could be the solution you’re looking for.

The truth is, every aspect of a home theater room, from the speakers to the furniture to the layout itself, can affect your entertainment experience. A premier entertainment experience is the goal of a home theater, so it stands to reason that your home theater setup is as optimal as it can be.

Here are a few reasons why you should rely on a proven home theater design and installation company like SCS Home Entertainment to craft the perfect entertainment space.

Lower Overall Costs

At first glance, it may seem both cost-effective and rewarding to tackle a DIY (do it yourself) budget home theater room. While a DIY project means foregoing consulting, installation, and labor costs, you’re potentially missing out on valuable input and experience from industry veterans.

Without professional input, you may run the risk of buying incompatible equipment, concealing wires poorly, calibrating your A/V equipment improperly, failing to meet the electrical requirements of your new setup – the list goes on. The end result? High costs, disrupted plans, and an unsatisfactory home theater room that you’re now stuck with.

On the flip side, getting in touch with a trusted home theater installer like SCS guarantees a smooth, efficient installation process. The peace of mind that SCS can bring you during home theater design and setup can save both time and money in the long term.

Access to High-End Equipment

Consumer-grade and professional-grade home theater equipment may not always be one and the same. Brands that sell home theater speakers, furniture, projectors, and other equipment may reserve their high-end products exclusively through certified distributors.

SCS carries Ultra-HD projectors, Blu-ray players, televisions, home theater projectors, and other high-end equipment. We network with trusted brands such as Sony, B&W, and Klipsch to deliver movie-grade A/V experiences right to your home. That’s an experience you might not achieve with a DIY setup.

Valuable Industry Experience

Home theater experts can provide insight, suggestions, and efficiency that you simply can’t get anywhere else. A proven installer like SCS Home Entertainment can snake wires, calibrate equipment, and automate your setup more effectively than a DIYer. You get what you pay for when you work with an installer: an efficient, detail-oriented home theater installation.

SCS can also assess and improve upon your home theater ideas from the beginning. With our help, we’ll settle on a home theater layout that fits your goals and budget. We can also optimize your new home theater setup to make the most out of your top-of-the-line equipment.

SCS can make your home movie theater ideas a reality. Schedule a visit to our showroom and see how we can craft an immersive, engaging home entertainment space for you.

SCS Sells & Installs TVs

PURCHASING & INSTALLING A NEW TV THROUGH SCS

If you are considering upgrading your home entertainment or workspace in the near future, a new TV set may be one of the first additions to your living room, home theater, or office. A new TV set can provide crystal-clear resolution, breathtaking landscapes, and high contrast for maximum visibility.

A few obstacles stand between you and your new TV set. First, you must sift through the wide variety of TV sizes, resolutions, and technologies available to you, before settling on exactly one that fits your specific needs.

Installing a TV can be a complex, difficult process, especially for DIYers without experience. An improper TV setup can damage your drywall and your new equipment, which can cost thousands of dollars to replace.

To avoid the hassle and risk of purchasing and installing your own TV, consider contacting SCS to guide you through the process. Here’s how SCS Home Entertainment can make TV upgrades seamless for you.

Choosing the Right TV For Your Space

SCS can help you form and detail your TV upgrade plans from the very beginning. An understanding of your room’s dimensions can help us decide which TV can be best for you. Large televisions in a small room can take up excessive space and prevent your audience from appreciating every detail. In the worst-case scenario, the television may not fit in the room at all. Conversely, small televisions in an expansive home theater space may require your audience to sit too close to the screen.

TV sizes are measured by their diagonal screen dimensions, and tend to sell in 55”, 65”, and 75+” models. 55” and 65” TVs can be suitable for most average-sized to large-sized rooms. SCS carries televisions in several sizes, which can help you determine which of our models fits your space.

After deciding on an appropriate TV size, consider a TV resolution that would fit your space and budget. SCS offers 4K Ultra HD TVs for crystal-clear resolution and stunning picture quality. We can help you find a 4K TV that fits your budget.

You may have existing TV accessories and equipment that require connections to your monitor. Make sure that your TV has the appropriate HDMI, auxiliary, and USB ports, as well as a suitable number of each. SCS carries models that provide these ports, as well as the latest Blu-ray players and projectors if you are looking for more upgrades. Alternatively, consider a television that integrates Smart technology, eliminating the need for external boxes and turning your TV into a web-connected, stream-ready hub.

Lastly, consider the lighting technology of your new TV. Internal lighting systems can affect the contrast of your screen, or how well it distinguishes between light and dark objects. SCS carries TV models with high-end OLED and Ultra-LED lighting, providing beautiful, clear contrast and brightness for any video you are watching.

If the luxury of choice concerning your ideal TV can be overwhelming, we’re here to guide you through the process, step-by-step.

Proper TV Installation

You’ve gotten your hands on the perfect TV for your home or commercial space. A DIY installation may require significant research, equipment, and manual labor, with a possibility of wear and tear down the road. Consider hiring SCS Home Entertainment’s TV installation service to save you time and money in the long term.

SCS’ certified installation team has years of collective experience in both home and commercial TV installation. Our installation process involves unpacking your new OLED or Ultra-LED TV  and mounting it on your wall of choice. We will connect your video components, conceal wires at your discretion, and assist you with setting up the Internet connection.

If you purchase a TV with Smart capabilities, we can integrate your new TV with the rest of your home and conduct a tutorial on its operation. We will also clean up and leave your home theater or commercial space spotless and ready for use. Our installation process does not end when our team leaves, either – we offer ongoing support if you have any questions or issues about your new TV.

Once you have planned out your purchase and install process, it’s time to make your new TV a reality. Whether you are planning your dream home entertainment setup, looking to upgrade a commercial space, searching for a TV technician, or planning a DIY TV install, contact SCS Home Entertainment for a showroom visit. See for yourself how we can bring your ideal home entertainment and commercial spaces to life.

Benefits of Digital Signage in Your Business

Analog displays have been mainstays in advertising, marketing, and business promotion for many years. From billboards to restaurant menus to flyers, many businesses use these displays to increase traffic and consumer interest. However, analog signs may be gradually phased out as more companies understand the appeal of digital signage.

Digital signage is a promising alternative to analog displays. The convenience, sustainability, and flexibility that digital signs offer has led many businesses to make the switch. Learn how digital signs can benefit almost every industry and service.

Flexibility and Versatility

Analog signs can be difficult to adjust or replace once they are installed. The cost of replacing analog signs, displays, or restaurant menus can be high with a relatively low payoff. The money you spend on analog sign replacement can be spent elsewhere by investing in digital signage. Adjusting the message and content displayed on digital signs may only take mere moments instead of hours or days with analog signs.

Digital signs can display any type of content appropriate for your business. You can create digital spreads that feature customer testimonials, menu items, advertisements, and user-generated posts with your touch panel. Digital signage software allows you to change your display automatically instead of taking time out of your workday to swap information. Digital displays can also be changed remotely, reducing the need for you or your employees to be on-site to make changes.

Analog signs require precious resources such as paper, vinyl, steel, and plastic.  These signs also need consistent maintenance and replacement, making them resource-heavy in the long term. Conversely, there is a renewed worldwide interest in sustainability which is likely to increase as time goes on. Many businesses are searching for eco-friendly alternatives to their current practices, and digital signage can reduce the stress your company puts on the environment.

Digital signage adds liveliness, vibrancy, and color to your business, location, or campus, while providing an eco-friendly alternative to your marketing or information techniques.

Accessibility

Over the past several years, access to commercial-grade digital signage has increased for both business owners and consumers. Digital signs have improved 4G, 5G, and LTE capabilities, allowing businesses to interchange their content quickly and efficiently. High-speed, reliable Internet capabilities alleviate the concern of unavailable or improperly displayed content.

Access to digital signage also extends to users and consumers of your business. Digital signage can interact with QR codes, gestures, and other forms of input from your users. Touchscreens were a popular form of user interactivity before the COVID-19 pandemic, and some commercial-grade digital signage products may still offer touchscreens that comply with health guidelines.

Accessible digital signs allow your business to invest less capital and see higher returns in digital signs. Accessible digital signs for your users improve their engagement, interest, and overall retention.

Improved Customer Retention

Retail, restaurants, and other in-store locations use signage to encourage purchases, update sales, and provide additional pertinent information. Traditional signs come in ads, menus, and billboards, but recent research shows that digital signage can improve customer retention in these areas.

One study’s participants remembered at least one advertisement they observed on a digital billboard in the last 30 days. Around 20 percent of these participants discussed the ads they saw with others, demonstrating the effectiveness of digital signage in providing memorable information to customers. Adding graphics, color, and movement to your digital sign further improves the chances of your clients retaining vital information.

Customization for Any Industry

Digital signage assists you in presenting information to your users in an engaging, entertaining manner, which is a valuable tool in virtually any industry or practice. They can reduce your overhead cost by lowering the need for paper, vinyl, and other precious resources, as well as reducing the need for employee supervision on your signage. These benefits allow you to invest your capital elsewhere.

Digital billboards offer dynamic advertising opportunities to any and every business owner. Automatic display changes can be useful for restaurants switching from their breakfast menu to their lunch menu. Retailers can use automated software for advertising upcoming or ongoing sales. School campuses can present updates to students and staff by utilizing movement and color on their digital signs. Social media feeds can display positive customer feedback to customers seeking validation on a potential purchase.

Customization options for digital signage are as limitless as the ideas that your company’s creative, technical minds can create and implement.

Smart homes have come a long way since the first smart home device, the ECHO IV, was built by engineer James Sutherland in 1966. Though it was never sold it commercially, this system was a marvel at the time: it could create shopping lists, adjust his thermostat, turn appliances on and off, and even manage all the digital clocks in the house. Today our smart homes can do all of that and much, much more.

What is a Smart Home?

A smart home is more than just the software and hardware that make it up; it’s an idea—the idea of home automation, convenience, comfort, greener living, security, sustainability, and total control over your environment.

More technically, however, a smart home is any domicile where appliances and various devices are connected via a mobile or a networked device. Being connected through the internet allows an owner to control appliances, thermostats, lights, cameras, and other security systems through a physical medium such as a tablet or smartphone or via voice commands.

What Can a Smart Home Do For Me?

Smart home trends are all about convenience, allowing you to automate various tasks that you may not have time for in your busy life. Have you ever forgotten to water the lawn? A smart home can have your lawn sprinklers set to activate whenever you want. Do you have children in your house that forget to turn off the lights when they leave a room? You can set your lights to automatically shut themselves off when the sensors in the room detect it’s empty. Have you ever wished you could save on your energy bill by adjusting the thermostat higher and lower when you aren’t home? You can integrate your HVAC system, allowing your smart home to adjust the temperature throughout the day to save energy.

But enough about all the practical things a smart home can do; what’s the point of having all this tech if you can’t have a little fun with it? Through smart home systems like Josh.ai, you can integrate your entire home theater system to create the perfect viewing environment. In the case of your home theatre system, imagine this: you sit down in your plush theater seat and tell your smart system to “play a movie.” Suddenly your movie projector screen rolls down; your sound system powers up and automatically adjust to your preferred volume, and the lighting slowly dims and turns off as the movie begins. If you need to get up during the movie to use the bathroom or get a snack, you can tell your system “intermission,” it will pause your movie and activate soft, recessed in-wall lighting.  Finally, when the credits roll, you can tell your smart system to “shut down the theater” and let it power down all of your equipment, and turn the lights back on.

What Is It Like Living In a Smart Home?

But what would your day look like if you lived in a smart home? It’s one thing to talk about all the conveniences like they were list, but it’s another thing to imagine the seamless experience it could provide.

You wake up early on a chilly November morning. Your blinds slowly open to let the sunlight in as you wake up, and your system plays a gentle tune to set your mood. You notice that it’s colder than you thought it would be, so tell your house to raise the temperature by a couple of degrees. You enjoy the comfort of your covers for a few minutes while your bedroom heats up.

You stretch and get out of bed, heading to the bathroom. Upon entering the room, the lights turn on at 75% intensity because you don’t like them to be too bright this early in the morning. You say, “tell me the weather,” and your house tells you the temperature outside, as well the expected highs and lows for the day. You leave the bathroom, and the lights turn off behind you. You enter the kitchen and whiff the fragrant aroma of freshly brewed coffee; your coffee automatically brews a fresh pot in the morning about minutes before you wake up because you hate having to wait, especially on cold mornings.

You grab your tablet and decide to sit down and watch the news on your tv. You use your smart home app to turn on the tv, browse for content, and then adjust the volume as you relax in your recliner with your morning joe. As you watch, your show is paused as you get a notification that someone is at your front door. You bring up the doorbell app on your tablet just in time to see the UPS driver getting pack into his van, a new package sitting on your doorstep.

After your relaxing morning, you decide to take care of some errands. You ask your smart home, “what’s on my grocery list?” and it reads it out loud to you. You realize you don’t need one of the items on the list because you bought it earlier in the week. You ask your home to delete it, which it does. When you leave, your house automatically locks up and goes into a “power save” mode, turning off all the lights and either raising or lowering the thermostat based on your preferences.

Later that night, you have some friends over for company. You decide you’re going to entertain them in your outdoor living room. Even outside, your smart home gives you comfort and complete control. You tell your house to “entertain guests” while you’re outside, and it automatically turns on the hanging string lights, lights the fire pit, and plays music from your outdoor speakers.
